Call for Nominations: Division of Student Affairs awards

Each year Appalachian State University recognizes outstanding students, faculty and staff

through a variety of awards. The Division of Student Affairs is pleased to share nomination

information for the W.H. Plemmons Medallion, Ronny L. Brooks Award, Bobby L. Dunnigan

Service Award, and Gregory S. Blimling Award for Outstanding Graduate Student in Student

Affairs. Below is some information about each of these awards:

 

W.H. Plemmons Leadership Medallion: (February 25, 2021 Deadline)

The W. H. Plemmons Leadership Medallion, named in honor of Dr. William H. Plemmons who

served as the second president of the University from 1955 to 1969, was established by an

action of the Appalachian State University Board of Trustees in 1996. The award was created to

recognize the time, energy, skills, and commitment of students, faculty, student affairs

educators and staff who exceed their peers in providing leadership that enriches the quality of

student life and advances the education of students.

Nominations may be made in one of the following four (4) categories:

1. A student leader who has provided distinguished leadership above that of other student leaders.

2. A Student Affairs Educator within the Division of Student Affairs for meritorious leadership in his or her work to enrich the quality of student life and learning.

3. A member of the faculty who has provided meritorious leadership through his or her work with student clubs or organizations, or work that enriches the quality of student

life and learning outside the classroom.

4. An employee of Appalachian State University who has provided meritorious leadership that has significantly enriched the quality of student life and learning outside of the

classroom.

 

Ronny L. Brooks Award: (March 15, 2021 Deadline)

The Ronny L. Brooks Leadership Award is intended to recognize Appalachian students who have

distinguished themselves through the leadership that they provided to Appalachian students,

programs, and/or organizations.

 

Bobby L. Dunnigan Service Award: (March 15, 2021 Deadline)

This award is intended to recognize those students who are employed in the Division of Student

Affairs at Appalachian State University and have distinguished themselves through the scope

and quality of their service during their employment.

 

Gregory S. Blimling Award for Outstanding Graduate Student in Student Affairs:  (March 15, 2021 Deadline)

Named for a previous Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, this award recipient must have, as

their primary responsibility, a graduate assistantship in an office in the Division of Student

Affairs.

 

Appalachian takes great pride in recognizing individuals who have contributed to the success of

our students.  Our faculty and staff provide outstanding instruction, advisement and support

both inside and outside the classroom.  Our student leaders continue to help shape the

Appalachian experience through their service, involvement and leadership experiences.  

I am sure that there are deserving faculty, staff and students you know who would be excellent

candidates for the W.H. Plemmons Medallion. Likewise, I am sure you are aware of students

who would be outstanding candidates for the Ronny L. Brooks Award, Bobby L. Dunnigan

Service Award, and Gregory S. Blimling Award for Outstanding Graduate Student in Student

Affairs.
