Applying to the Honors College as a Transfer Student
We encourage all students transferring to App State with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and interested in pursuing an Honors education to apply to join the Honors College! The Honors College at App State proudly practices holistic admissions. Your GPA is important, but your goals, achievements, ambition, curiosity, service, resiliency, leadership, and commitment to make a difference mean even more.
App State transfer students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher will receive an email inviting to apply to the Honors College. This invitation will arrive soon after your admission decision and will contain a link to our Honors College application for transfer students. The application asks you to
decide which Honors track is right for you. Upper Division Honors is best for students transferring 45 to 70 hours with fewer than 6 Honors hours. University Honors is best for students transferring fewer than 45 hours or any students transferring at least 6 Honors hours.
let us know when you intend to graduate from App State.
tell us about any Honors courses you will be transferring. Transferred Honors courses will count as Honors hours at App!
respond to an essay prompt that will give you space to
teach us who you are, what experiences, values, interests, and goals contribute to your unique identity;
tell us why you are uniquely-suited, would benefit, and want to pursue an Honors education;
show us your academic achievement, resiliency, motivation, curiosity, and potential;
explain how you have and will contribute beyond yourself, engage with the community and world;
get us excited about working with you and supporting your education—your intellectual, personal, and professional development—over the next four years and beyond.
Please reach out to Dr. Vicky Klima, Interim Dean of the Honors College, if you would like to talk about Honors education at App State, the Honors College, or the application process. We welcome such conversations.
