The purpose of this study was to determine the economic impacts to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region of four firms that are current recipients of Charlotte's Business Investment Program grant. Through the use of the IMPLAN data and program (which uses an input-output model to calculate impacts) and survey instruments (the method through which I collected primary data on firm spending and employee demographics), I analyzed the annual impacts on Charlotte in terms of jobs created, employee compensation, proprietor's income, total value added, and output. The threshold for program success was based on the total gain in output. The study did not look at the costs of the incentive program, so I was unable to make a conclusion on whether there was a net gain to the city of Charlotte. I found that the total number of jobs created (direct, indirect, and induced impacts) was 4,936 . Employee compensation impacts totaled $248,510,660. Total proprietors' income was $42,993,613. The total value added amounted to $440,282,586. Total value of output in the region was $690,299,631.
