Megen Culpepper is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Fermentation Sciences. Her area of research includes projects spanning biochemistry, molecular biology and analytical chemistry focused on relating protein structure to biochemical function. She has mentored students across several disciplines in both departmental and university Honor’s thesis research projects and has served as second readers in both of these capacities. She was awarded the 2020 Office of Student research Outstanding Undergraduate research mentor award. Her research has been supported through the National Institutes of Health, The University of North Carolina System, and internal grants from RIEEE, URC, OSR, and CAS. Megen  teaches lecture and laboratory courses in Biochemistry and Analytical chemistry and serves her department as an academic advisor. She was awarded the 2022 Richard N. Henson Outstanding Advisor Award from the College of Arts and Sciences. Megen is excited about joining the Honor’s College team as the STEM mentor to facilitate student’s development in scholarship, service, and growth during their time at Appalachian State.
