Faculty Governance

The Honors College Faculty Governance Plan proposed by the Honors College Faculty Governance Ad Hoc Subcommittee (Michael Dale, Jeanne Dubino, Alexandra Hellenbrand, and Dee Parks); and approved by the Honors College Faculty 26 October 2010. Membership in the Honors College Faculty:

  1. Any ASU faculty member may teach up to two HON classes without joining the Honors College Faculty (HCF), but further teaching within the College requires application and admission to the HCF. With permission of the Honors College Faculty Review Committee, a faculty member could teach a third course if their application was in process.
  2. Any ASU faculty member wishing to join the HCF* must:
  • Teach two HON courses before applying (either the same course twice or two different ones)
  • Submit a letter indicating why they wish to join the faculty and teach in Honors (to the Honors College Director)
  • Attach a Curriculum Vitae with their letter
  • * Even after membership on the HCF, faculty must still be released from their home departments to teach HON courses and must secure the appropriate approval from their respective department chairs.
Review of all applications to join the HCF will be by the Honors College Faculty Review Committee. Any ASU individuals who have not previously been approved for teaching by an academic unit, but who wish to teach in the Honors College, must be approved by the Honors College Faculty Review Committee and will need to submit an official transcript in addition to the cover letter of interest and CV to be considered. [Ammendment approved by Honors College Faculty 30 October 2015] Any non-ASU individuals wishing to teach in the HC must be approved by the Honors College Faculty Review Committee and will need to submit an official transcript in addition to the cover letter of interest and CV to be considered. Membership in the HCF confers the following privileges:
  • Being able to continue teaching in Honors past the first two courses
  • Being able to contribute to the Honors College development (e.g., curricular)
  • Being able to list membership in the HCF
  • Opportunity to participate in the Honors College Faculty Fellows Program (a proposed one semester release to the Honors College for developing courses and research with students).
