The idea of differentiated instruction has been one of debate throughout school systems across America. While teachers entertain the idea of differentiating instruction, the process is hardly accomplished correctly in most classrooms. This paper examines the elements of a differentiated classroom and how these elements should be implemented the classroom. It argues the importance and benefits of differentiation while discussing what is appropriate differentiated curriculum for gifted learners. Suggestions are given for how teachers can effectively differentiate instruction in their classrooms. Advice is also offered to parents about ways to support their gifted child in the classroom. There is also a brief section discussing advice for school districts that are implementing differentiated instruction. The findings conclude that differentiated instruction is beneficial to all children in every classroom.
