Alumna Holds Dream Job!

Heidi Hatcher (2008) is a wildlife biologist for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game; she attributes her success to her experience in The Honors College at App. She recently shared, “I am so fortunate to have attended Appalachian, and even more so to attend as a Chancellor's Scholar. My honors courses were interesting and stimulating. I was able to spend a semester studying ecology and conservation in Costa Rica, and even journey to Vietnam for courses in biogeography and conservation. Through contact with other Honors students, I also became involved with Outdoor Programs, through which I began to develop professional skills and experience as an outdoor experiential educator and guide. All of these factors contributed to my undergraduate success as well as my subsequent graduate success at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks (MS 2013). Ultimately, I wouldn’t be holding my dream job as a wildlife management biologist if it were not for the support and opportunities afforded me by the Chancellor’s Scholar Program."
