Maddison Staszkiewicz has accepted a position with Global Brigades. She will be working in Tegucigalpa, Honduras as a Program Associate. On May 31st, Maddison successfully defended her thesis entitled “A Model for Refugee and Resettlement Assistance in North Carolina." She starts work in Honduras on June 12th. The photograph shown here pictures Maddison (center) following the successful defense of her thesis along with four colleagues from World Relief, a volunteer agency for refugee resettlement. Being an intern this past semester at World Relief, provided Maddison the foundation for her thesis analysis of North Carolina refugee resettlement. Maddison is graduating a Spanish major with minors in psychology and medical humanities. She was originally a pre-med major; her myriad interests intersect around global migration and health. As Maddison shared, “At Global Brigades, I will be working to empower volunteers and local communities to work together through a holistic model to reduce health and economic disparities in communities across the country.” Officially a July 2017 graduate, Maddison epitomizes the interdisciplinary breath of University Honors.
