Dear The Honors College,
I am a 5th grader, in Sacramento, Ca. My teacher is a Freedom Writer Teacher who teaches us about Tolerance and how it affects millions of people especially during the Holocaust. One part of our program is our award winning Bandage Project! 8 years ago, we Tolerance Kids, wanted a way to represent the 1.5 million children [that] were murdered during the Holocaust. This year marks the 10th anniversary since we started our project. We are almost at our million and know with huge response that you will be part of this history in the making project!
We decided that all bandages would honor children; they come in all shapes, sizes and colors and most of all, heal pain. We hit our first half million in 2013 and reached our halfway goal in 2016! We now have about 900,000 bandages. We write the names on every single bandage to honor those children. Our project honors all the children included in the 6 million Jewish victims, 5 million Polish Christians, Gypsies, Handicapped, Homosexuals and others who were also killed. Since we are children ourselves, our project means even more to us.
B’Nai Naftoli in Los Angeles honored us with a Tolerance Award presented by the Mayor and county of Los Angeles. They also sent us 100,800 bandages!!! Some of our largest helpers have been: Jose Zapata in Tx (30,000), Christa McAulifee School in NY (17,737), Derrick Barrow’s group in LA (17,000), and Michigan Arts Academy (over 20,000). Many classes work together to hold a competition to see who can send us the most. Every single bandage helps. Together with our help, we will reach our goal. Letters we receive, pictures and more are all kept in binders to document all of your help and to help us write a book about our project. One day our project will be on display at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles where these children will never be forgotten.
Help us help them heal, send bandages now! We are able to purchase 100 bandages for $1 f that is an easier way to help. Please feel free to contact us at: Woodlake Elementary, 700 Southgate Dr., Sacramento, Ca 95815
