Suburban sprawl threatens the survival of all species and communities on the global scale. This paper will exhibit these threats and examine them in the context of human development as well as the preservation of other species and habitats. Relevant internationally-applicable solutions to these problems within the fields of city planning, appropriate technology, and permaculture will be given and described in depth. Each of the processes that serve as a potential remedy for sprawl will be explained on the technical level within the manual and critically examined for their relevance.
