Message from Dean Jeff Vahlbusch

Dear Honors students, faculty, staff, and friends,

The Honors College's International Education Requirement asks our students to engage deeply with the world beyond Boone:  with other peoples, cultures, customs, histories, languages, and ways of seeing and acting in the world. Our students study, work, research, serve, or intern abroad—often all of these at once—pursuing educational experiences that transform them and thus increase intercultural and international respect, understanding, and collaboration.

Please read our spotlight story below, on Professor Greg McClure's outstanding Honors College seminar Education as the Practice of Freedom (HON 2515).  This course invites students to engage with Copal AA La Esperanza, an indigenous Maya community in Guatemala.

Heads up, Honors students and everyone!  We will be offering Dr. McClure's seminar again this coming spring semester, AND:  Next week during App’s Climate Week, you can meet community leaders from Copal AA La Esperanza and learn about their astonishing work for environmental justice. Fabiana Jiménez, Raul Ortíz, and Jose Gómez will present via Zoom on September 22nd at 4:00 pm, September 25th at 10: am, and September 26th at 4:00 pm, respectively. For more information visit here and direct any questions to Dr. Greg McClure.
