Honors Wednesday Memo

Opportunities and Information for Honors Students

edited by Lakin Stevens

Volume 4, Issue 26

March 24, 2021

Dear Honors students, faculty, staff,

All voices around me—from students, faculty members, fellow staff and administrators—and all voices within me are saying the same simple thing in many different ways:  working, studying, living right now are just plain hard.

Our Honors Wednesday Memo this week (and each week) offers many kinds of support to all of us. And the university and community are offering many more. Reach out, to me or others you know, if you need help!

In every one of the voices around and in me, I’m also hearing, sometimes still very faintly, a note or two of something more, coming, I think, from that marvelous resilient human core in each of us. I’m hearing the beginning of spring, of warming weather, of sunshine and daffodils and the certainty of summer.

We’re gonna get through this, together.

Jeff

Honors third-year senior and Chancellor’s Scholar Rebecca Brown has been accepted to The Ohio State University where she has received a research assistantship with the Department of Animal Science. Brown is a sustainable development major with a concentration in agroecology and sustainable agriculture. For her Honors thesis titled “Phosphorous Application Comparison between organic fertilizers and hog manure in the High Country,” she has been studying whether hog manure can be used as a soil fertilizer. Brown explains how her Honors experience has prepared her for graduate experience starting Fall 2021, “Being persistent and patient, specifically with my Honors thesis has ultimately taught me to always find the fun and the passion in my work. The connections I have with the faculty, staff, and students within the Honors College is what led me to choose The Ohio State University. Dr. Jacobi, like the Honors College, appreciates who I am as a person and a student. She sees my potential and I am eternally grateful to have learned that through the Honors College.”
