Dear Honors Students,
Today’s memo is full of opportunities for you to engage beyond the classroom. There are traditional academic opportunities like publishing and presenting your research, as well as internships. Additionally, there are several activities to keep your mind and body active, such as the BANFF film festival, happiness and health presentations, and musical performances by Hayes School of Music faculty, staff, and students. The Honors College is dedicated to supporting your holistic development, encompassing not just your academics but all the things that make you uniquely you. Remember, it is crucial to balance academic pursuits with activities that nurture your well-being and help you thrive.

Aisthesis: A Publication Opportunity for Honors Students
The University of Minnesota Duluth’s Honors Program welcomes academic and creative submissions for the 2025 issue of their undergraduate honors journal, Aisthesis. They accept academic and creative work from all disciplines including: capstone projects, literature reviews, research articles, visual art, poetry, and written works in nonfiction and fiction. Honors students are encouraged to submit their work to build their resumes, share their research and creative work, and have an opportunity to publish as an undergraduate student. SRHC Proposal Applications
The Southern Regional Honors Council is accepting proposals for presentations for their 2025 conference in Chattanooga, Tennessee, March 26-29, 2025. Proposals must be submitted by January 31, 2025. The conference will offer nine presentation categories and five formats that explore the overarching theme of “Honoring Story.” The Honors College will be able to support a limited number of student presenters with funds for travel, hotel, and registration. Smith Gallery Call for Submissions
The Department of Art’s Smith Gallery invites submissions for their 2025 Art and Design Expo, an annual juried exhibition open to all students currently enrolled at App State. This year’s exhibit will be judged by the Tiger Strikes Asteroid art collective located in Greenville, SC. The exhibit will be held from March 17th until March 27th in the lobby of the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts. Submissions will be accepted until Friday, January 31st. IDEAL Summer Internship Applications Open
The United Arts of Wade County is accepting applications for their Internship for Diverse and Emerging Arts Leaders (IDEAL) Summer Internship 2025. The IDEAL program contributes to creating a future in arts leadership for undergraduate students. Interns will participate in networking and professional development activities, as well as building connections for their future careers. 2024 University College Awards Nominations
The 2024 University College Awards is now accepting nominations. These awards are given to App State faculty, staff, administrators, and advisors who have made significant contributions and showed dedication to their students in and outside of the classroom. BANFF Mountain Film Festival
Tickets are on sale for the world tour of the BANFF Mountain Film Festival. This festival celebrates mountain culture, sports, adventure, and outdoor storytelling. The show will be hosted from Thursday, March 20th through Saturday, March 22nd in the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $15 for App State students and $20 for the public. “Happiness and Health,” with Dr. Mathew A. Foust & Dr. Anna Holleman
Dr. Mathew A. Foust and Dr. Anna Holleman will present “Happiness and Health” on January 30th, from 5:30 p.m. through 7:00 p.m. in the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts, room 1102. This presentation will kick off the four-part series titled “Philosophy and Religious Studies in the Contemporary World,” hosted by High Country Humanities and the Department of Philosophy and Religion. Faculty-Guest Recital
The Hayes School of Music faculty and staff will be performing alongside other musical guests on Friday, January 31st, from 8:00 p.m. through 9:00 p.m. in the Rosen Concert Hall. In the Honors Spotlight
Honors College students travel to the National Collegiate Honors Council annual conference in Kansas City

Honors students Em Acuña and Kistler Hunt traveled with Drs. Vicky Klima and Angela Mead to attend the annual meetings of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) held October 30-November 3, 2024, in Kansas City, MO. The NCHC annually hosts meetings for Honors programs across the country with the goal of sharing information, and strengthening the community through workshops, scholarships, and career development. Attending the NCHC conference offered Acuña and Hunt an opportunity to connect to other Honors students in other programs and build Honors community even beyond App State.
