The Honors College welcomes Isabella Lebron to her new role as the assistant editor of the Honors Wednesday Memo (HWM). Lebron began stepping into this role, training on her new duties in late September 2025. She joined Appalachian State in Fall 2024 semester and entered the Honors College as a continuing student in Spring 2025 semester; she intends to graduate in May 2028. Lebron is pursuing double majors in psychology and English, with a literary studies concentration, as well as a minor in American Sign Language.
As assistant editor, Lebron’s duties primarily involve creating and editing spotlight stories for inclusion in the HWM and the management of the Honors College's professional social media accounts, including: Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. She will also help with editing the HWM, collaborating with the editor, as well as Drs. Garrett McDowell and Vicky Klima, associate vice provost. Lebron discovered the position through the Honors College Instagram page and recognized it as an opportunity that aligned with her interests. Lebron reflected,
I came into the Honors College halfway through my freshman year and was looking for ways to get involved within the honors community outside of classes. I love stretching beyond my comfort zone and being able to see the outcome of my work in a tangible and obvious way.
We encourage all honors students like Lebron to find ways to be engaged in our community.
Lebron was also involved in journalistic extracurriculars in high school, and across campus has been involved with AppVotes, ACLU, Campus Vote Project, and local protests. She is also the current local philanthropy chair for the Pi Kappa chapter of Chi Omega at App State. In this role, she has worked on raising money, supplies, and awareness for a variety of local organizations: OASIS, Watauga Humane Society, and the Children’s Council of Watauga County. Her background of being involved in a variety of different organizations and roles reflects some of her unique capabilities that she brings to the team. Lebron shared,
I deeply enjoy learning from others and finding new ways to make the Memo more interesting and accessible. My mix of professionalism, creativity and genuine enthusiasm for storytelling helps me contribute meaningfully to the team and Honors community.
Lebron is excited to grow in this position. “Moving forward, I hope to learn more about how to improve my editing and design skills and find new ways to make the Memo more engaging and reflective of the diverse voices within the Honors community.” She also mentioned how the position has already worked to strengthen her attention to detail and ability to balance professionalism and creativity.
As Lebron looks towards her future, she is excited for how this role will strengthen her skills and allow her to pursue a career in research and writing. She also hopes it will help her learn to communicate her ideas in a clear way adapted to specific audiences. She stated,
This experience has shown me the impact that thoughtful, well-crafted writing can have in connecting people and sharing meaningful stories, which motivates me to continue developing my voice and style as I work toward a future in writing.
The Honors College is excited to have Lebron with her eagerness and enthusiasm on the HWM team. Stay tuned to our Spotlight Stories and social media pages to see Lebron’s contributions. We cannot wait to see how Lebron evolves in this role as the Honors Wednesday Memo assistant editor.
