The honors project consists of the construction of professional, yet fashionable, garments that will utilize and challenge apparel design skills.  The professional looks relate to three specific target markets and their current dress needs: high school graduates, college graduates, and professional working women.  Each garment contains a similar design aesthetic associated with a current fashion trend; ruffles are a prominent trend for the Spring 2009 season.  The dress needs vary within each target market, requiring the garments to incorporate specific design elements and fabric choices.  A basic look in simple fabrics is the most suitable design for a high school graduate.  The college graduate needs a strong look to catch attention at a professional interview, requiring the use of bold colors and strong silhouettes.  The professional working woman needs a comfortable garment that easily transitions from day to night, while consisting of a fashion-forward design.  The creation of the ruffle pattern for each garment challenges pattern-making abilities due to unfamiliarity with this technique.  Each garment also utilizes sewing proficiencies in order to provide a professional end product.  The ruffle design in each garment enhances the overall cohesion, which successfully caters to the various target markets.
