My research interests explore the intersection of Western and Oceanic visual cultures since the late 19th century, with a focus on colonial photography, contemporary Indigenous art, and museum collection and display. My field and archival research have taken me all over the world, from the British Library in London to a women's fiber arts cooperative in the Cook Islands. I even served as a cultural lecturer on a freighter ship in the Marquesas Islands. Now, I'm completing a monograph on American colonial photography from Hawai'i and Samoa. When I'm not working, I climb mountains and practice yoga.
