The making of my thesis documentary, Family, Fairness, Freedom, has been a true educational experience. I have not only learned the basics of documentary-making, but also some more advanced techniques of adding texture to a scene. Although I already knew quite a lot about Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender politics, I discovered even more in the context of North Carolina as well as the United States and other countries. Looking back on my finished documentary and considering everything that I have learned, there are certainly some things that I would have done to make this movie even better than it is, if I had the time and money to do so. In this reflection paper, I intend to address what I would have done differently with adequate resources, as well as things that I learned that did not make it into the documentary.
