This thesis discusses the Room 13 International Network and its implications for Art Education and the role of art teacher. The paper takes a qualitative stance as is seeks to explore the program by a combination of field study at the original Room 13 in Caol, Scotlad, as well as personal communications and literatme reviews. The analysis is taken further with a comparison between Room 13 and a local arts program, The Sawtooth Center for Visual Arts in Winston-Salem. Between the research and personal accounts, this thesis endeavors to determine the qualities of a successful art education program. Perhaps even more important, on a personal level, the following research strives to discern the role of an effective educator.
