Selling millions o f Kindle Fire tablets and Kindle e-readers, the 2011 holiday season was Amazon.com, Inc.'s most successful. The best-selling Kindle book released in 20 ll was published independently by its author using Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). That is, the author decided to forego the common commercial publishing route and used Amazon ' s KDP service to self-publish electronically-a decision growing more popular every day with writers because of people's increasing use of e-readers. But self- publishing is an early American tradition. Back during the days ofthe New World, the person with the printing press was often the author, publisher, printer and bookseller. This thesis follows the role ofthe author, publisher and seller. A lesson about the various aspects of book publishing and publishing trends, this thesis is a creative and professional project reporting a first-hand experience in publishing novella for young adults.
