Honors Students Join Faculty-led Trip Studying Religious and Ethnic Conflict in Western Europe

This past summer, Honors students Madeline Lippy and Kayla Young traveled with Dr. Lippard, Associate Professor of Sociology, and Dr. Behrend-Martinez, Professor of History, to Spain, Ireland, and Northern Ireland to study religious and ethnic conflicts. The group traveled to Seville, Madrid, and Bilbao, Spain, where they focused on religious conflicts between Muslims, Christians, and Jews. Then they visited the main towns in Ireland and Northern Ireland (Dublin, Belfast, and Derry), where the conflict between Catholics and Protestants is still in-progress. The photograph shown here is an example of the public murals citizens painted throughout these two countries conveying their political ideas.
