So what does an Honors thesis look like? The answer to this is as creative, diverse, and ingenious as our students. It can even be a creative project, one that welcomes you to close your eyes. Open your ears and check out this example, a podcast made by graduating Honors senior and communication major Liz Pope: https://soundcloud.com/user-823562743/look-up-technologys-impaction-on-attention-connection-and-creativity
Top photo shows Liz at her thesis defense where she asked audience members to give up their phones and open their ears to listen. For this thesis project, Liz worked with mentor Dr. Janice Pope, Professor in the Department of Communication, and Ms. Megan Hayes, Appalachian State University's Director of Communications. While a student at Appalachian, Liz has been working as an intern with University Communications. Liz used their audio recording equipment and studio to record two of the podcast interviews. Along with this podcast, Liz will submit a written reflection of this project to the Honors College in fulfillment of the requirements of her Honors thesis. The archive of her thesis in NCDocs will link to this podcast and her podcast will have a link to the written reflection on NCDocs.
Congratulations to Liz on this exceptional work! Thank you for modeling how we can all better listen, and letting us know what can be gained from that.
