The Office of International Education and Development (OIED) offers study abroad scholarships ranging from $250 to $2,000. There are three cycles of scholarship consideration, with the deadline for the first cycle being November 1 at 11:59 PM. While all three cycles are in time for being an award for the Culture and the Arts in Vienna program next May, there are advantages in applying in the earliest cycle possible:
1) If the student does not receive a scholarship in the first round, they can reapply in the later rounds and they might be offered a scholarship then. They can even go to the OIED office for advice about how to make the application stronger on the reapplication.
2) If the student is unsure if they can afford the program, they can actually apply for the scholarship before applying to the program and then if they receive a scholarship apply to the program within 30 days after that receipt.
Additional Information:
Any full-time, degree-seeking student applying to a credit-bearing study abroad program that takes place between 12/01/18 and 12/01/19 is eligible to apply. Degree-seeking international students returning to Appalachian in Fall 2019 are also eligible to apply forscholarships during this cycle.
OIED scholarships open three times per academic year. Students are encouraged to apply for scholarships well in advance of their desired program. Upon request, feedback can be provided to students who do not receive a scholarship, and students can reapply during the next cycle. Students need not have committed to a study abroad program to apply for ascholarship, but if awarded a scholarship, they need to commit to a program within 30 days of notification.
NOTE: This application requires one letter of recommendation, due by the November 1 deadline. Please save your application early enough to allow your recommender adequate time for this. No late recommendations will be accepted.
