Message from Dean Jeff Vahlbusch

Dear Honors students, faculty, friends and supporters,

A few weeks ago, I wrote an Honors Wednesday Memo headnote with this title: We need more service opportunities in Honors!  I noted that we in Honors at Appalachian are not yet fully realizing our potential for helping the communities we live and work in.  I asked Honors students to volunteer to help figure out how to better integrate service + civic engagement into the Honors College. Please send me an email if you'd like to help me think about this! (vahlbuschjb).

App Builds a Home (ABAH + Habitat):  App State and Habitat for Humanity (Watauga County) are building a house for a local family!  ABAH needs volunteers to help complete the building, and still needs to raise additional funds to pay for it. On November 19th, the Honors College will be sponsoring a letter-writing campaign to raise the final dollars.  Mark your calendars, bring some addresses with you, and come write a few letters to friends and family asking them to chip in. Honors will kick in cookies, and a wonderfully generous community member will match every contribution made before December 31. More details next week. Also, check out our spotlight story at the bottom of the memo for Honors participation with App Builds a Home.

In your debt,

Jeff
