Message from Dean Jeff Vahlbusch

Dear Honors students, faculty, staff, and friends,

As this semester crouches and tenses hard for its final leap, I want to "plug" three Honors events happening tonight and tomorrow as particularly important—and to remind us all that staying involved with life outside of studying can keep us happy and human, even when we are stressed:

1.     The Chancellor's Scholars' Mini-Conference on Ireland: this was one of the best events of my year last year, and this year's conference promises to be even better. Check it out tonight, Wednesday 11/20, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m., PSU 417, Beacon Heights. Highly recommended for all.  "And there will be cookies!"  See below for details.

2.     Students, faculty, and staff interested in leadership should attend the public lecture by Judith K. Brodsky and Ferris Olin, authors of the recently published book Junctures in Women's Leadership:  Thursday, November 21 at 5:30 pm in the Table Rock Room of Plemmons Student Union. Sponsors include the Honors College. More details below.

3.     And students in Professor PJ Nelson's HON 2515 course, Speaking Peace in Conflict, will be hosting a Conflict Resolution Workshop this Thursday, 11/21, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m., Fireside Lounge, Summit Hall. Come learn to peacefully mediate conflict in your personal and professional lives. Hosted by Bailey Law, Damian Orloff, and Montana Murphy (with App Co. cookies).

And don't forget:  the Honors College's own Dr. Angela Mead is offering any Honors students with no plans for Thanksgiving dinner a place at her generous holiday table. Get in touch with Angela right away if you're staying in Boone and would like to join in:  meadad@appstate.edu.

Yours,

Jeff
