Opportunities and Information for Honors Students

Dear Honors students, faculty, staff, friends,

This past Saturday was Scholars Day, the day applicants for Appalachian's major scholarships come (or Zoom!) to campus to interview. Dr. Angela Mead and I in the Honors College coordinate the wonderful work of the Chancellor's Scholar Selection Committee—16 faculty members from academic departments across the university and 8 current Chancellor's Scholars—who interview our approximately 50 finalists each year and work collaboratively to make our selections.

I'm writing today to thank all Chancellor's Scholarship applicants for their amazing applications, and all finalists for their great interviews. And I'm also writing to share this:  every finalist I talked to post-interview mentioned how much they loved our conversational interview process, and many thanked us for thereby showing real interest in and caring for them as individuals. Such caring and responsiveness to each student is one of the things I love most about Appalachian and about Honors. This is something to celebrate, to cultivate, and to grow!

Yours,

Jeff

Meet Annie Morgan, an office assistant in the Honors College! Annie works at the front desk and responds to or redirects Honors College emails and phone calls. Annie is a public health major with a minor in chemistry on the pre-med track. She participates in Kappa Delta Sorority, the Public Health Club, and Planned Parenthood Generation Action with intentions to attend medical school after graduation in hopes of becoming an OB/GYN.

Annie described her experiences, “Being a student and employee of the Honors College has been the best thing to happen to me since coming to Appalachian State. I am so thankful for the friends that I have made through Honors. Every single person in the Honors College is determined and passionate about their future and it motivates me to become a better student and employee.”
