August 24, 2022

Dear Honors Wednesday Memo readers!

I'm excited to send you the first HWM of the new academic year, and to note, happily, that this begins the Memo's 6th full year of weekly service to students, staff, and faculty at Appalachian, in the Honors College, and in the now 36 departmental Honors programs across the university.

I offer special welcome to our incoming new Honors College students and their families – thank you for saying "YES!" to us and to Appalachian--and special thanks to our amazing returning students and faculty. All of us in the Honors College look forward to continuing to collaborate with you in pursuit of truly extraordinary educational opportunities, both in and beyond the classroom.

And I offer my thanks to all regular readers of the Memo and invite you to send comments and suggestions, submit additional opportunities for consideration (our deadline is any Thursday at 5 p.m. to be considered for the next Wednesday Memo), and forward the Memo broadly.

Writing with gratitude to all,

Jeff

Honors students enrolled in ART 3013: Introduction to the New York Art Scene during the Spring 2022 semester visited New York City for five days  from April 3-7, 2022. Jody Servon, professor of art management, Dr. Heather Waldroup, associate director of the Honors College and professor of art history, and art management Honors graduate Gabrielle Knight, the lead installer/preparator at App State’s Turchin Center for the Visual Arts, led the group. Honors College students Sarah Harris, Samantha Oleschuk, and Addie Clark and art honors student Addie Magyar viewed collections along with their classmates. The trip combined professional development events, such as meeting with the internship coordinator and current interns at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, with the opportunity to view historical and contemporary art in person, such as the Whitney Biennial exhibition.
