Synthesis, Surface Immobilization, and Electrochemical Characterization of Cobalt Bis(glyoxime) Hydrogen Catalysts

Cobaloximes are promising catalysts for the hydrogen evolution half-reaction and could be used as cathodic catalyst for renewable energy storage system. In an ideal situation, a cobaloxime would be stably attached to an electrode surface via covalent bonds, entrapment, or hydrophobic interactions and be catalytically active at neutral pH in aqueous conditions. At present, only a handful of studies have been conducted in water, and these indicate that catalytic turnover generally is restricted to acidic conditions.

Environmental Design for Alzheimer's and Dementia

My Interior Design education led me to a passion for the field of senior living environments, specifically designing for individuals with dementia. My approach to generate innovative design solutions was through application of current and credible research in combination with the psychological experience of interior spaces.

Light Element Abundance Inhomogeneities and Deep Mixing in Galactic Globular Clusters

It was discovered some thirty years ago that stars in Galactic globular clusters tend to decrease in carbon abundance with increasing luminosity on the red giant branch, particularly among the lower metallicity clusters. While such a phenomena is not predicted by canonical models of stellar interiors and evolution, it is widely believed to be the result of some extra mixing operating during red giant branch ascent which transports material exposed to the CN(O)-cycle to the surface.

Evaluating Relationships between Water Quality Partners and Human Behavior in an Impaired New England Estuary

Buzzards Bay is located in Southeastern Massachusetts in the lee of Cape Cod. Buzzards Bay is part of the National Estuary Program for its history of water quality problems (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 2014). The declining health of Buzzards Bay may reflect recent increases in coastal development in the area. The majority of the nitrogen loading into Buzzards Bay is linked to sprawling residential and tourist development, and the widespread use of on-site septic systems (Costa et al., 1992).

How Perceived Risk Impacts International Travel

This thesis studies the relationship between perceptions of risk that travelers feel when traveling internationally and their patterns of behavior regarding international travel. It was hypothesized that previous international travel, lack of language skills, negative media portrayals, adventurous personality types, and increased perceptions of risk regarding health concerns, political instability and crime would have an impact on international travel decisions.

Case Analysis of the Real Economic Impact of Corporations in Charlotte

The purpose of this study was to determine the economic impacts to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region of four firms that are current recipients of Charlotte's Business Investment Program grant. Through the use of the IMPLAN data and program (which uses an input-output model to calculate impacts) and survey instruments (the method through which I collected primary data on firm spending and employee demographics), I analyzed the annual impacts on Charlotte in terms of jobs created, employee compensation, proprietor's income, total value added, and output.

It's Not About Breaking In - It's About Moving Up: The Glass Ceiling and the Role of Female Creatives in Advertising

The glass ceiling has existed since women entered the workforce. But despite its formal identification and definition in the mid-1980s, the glass ceiling has yet to be broken. Women are still invisibly barred from reaching the highest positions of executive power, especially in the advertising industry. The lack of female executive artists and writers—creatives—in the advertising industry presents an opportunity to question women, the industry, and society about the glass ceiling in advertising and what can be done to break it.

Museums in Modern Society: Implementation of Modern Technologies and Mobile Devices

The use of mobile technologies has grown exponentially and cannot be ignored by current museum professionals. Museums across the United States have opportunities to expand the realm of how a museum is experienced by exploring possibilities of mobile platforms. Networking with audiences in modern technologies allows for more diverse publics to come in contact with museums and thus allows museums to stay relevant in today's society. Inclusion of mobile devices and other technologies can help to create a greater number of visitors participating in exhibits within and outside of museums.

Recognizing the Simultaneous Occurrence of Women's Rights and Elder Abuse in Ghana's Watch Camps to Gain International Aid for Improved Elder Care

Belief in witchcraft pervades much of northern and sub-Saharan Africa and often results in extreme cases of violence in Ghana. Particularly in Ghana's rural north, the people are more inclined to blame common problems on supernatural causes, due to a lack of scientific knowledge. Sickness and environmental disasters strike the villages frequently, and a common explanation is witchcraft. Those accused of witchcraft are most often older women.

ADHD Stigma in a College Population

This study examined ADHD stigma across sexes within a college population. The participants included 87 women and 40 men aged 18 to 25. A sex-specific adaptation of the ADHD Stigma Questionnaire (ASQ) was used to measure stigma, as well as an ADHD treatment stigma scale to measure treatment stigma specifically. Additionally, the ten-item personality inventory was used to determine if there were any correlations between personality and levels of stigma. Regarding main effect of participant sex, no significant differences were noted for total ADHD stigma.
