The Honors College Thesis (minimum of 3 credit hours) is your opportunity to collaborate with a dedicated faculty mentor on a project that matters to you.

  • Creative & Community-Focused Projects: If you are producing a creative work (like a film, recording, or exhibition) or executing an action-oriented community project, the objects or activities you create are core parts of your thesis. Therefore, your accompanying paper detailing your preparation, process, and reflection may be more concise, with an absolute minimum of 10 pages.
  • Research Theses & Systematic Reviews: Whether you are conducting laboratory experiments, analyzing survey data, or performing a rigorous literature synthesis, the written text is your primary artifact. To detail your process and analysis, these papers should be significantly longer, matching the standards of your discipline.

Honors College Thesis vs. Departmental Honors Thesis

You can use a single thesis to satisfy both University Honors and Departmental Honors requirements.

  • Check the rules: Your project must meet the guidelines for both the Honors College and your major department.
  • Resolve conflicts early: If the formatting or requirements clash, talk to your department advisor and your Honors mentor right away to find a solution.
