The Chancellor's Scholarship is open to all students applying to the Honors College.

A faculty selection committee with representatives from across the university reviews applications and selects finalists for a virtual Interview Day in January. In addition to reviewing transcripts and activities lists, the committee carefully considers each applicant's essays to better understand their academic interests, intellectual curiosity, leadership, initiative, and desire to learn, contribute, and grow.

Chancellor's Scholars become active members of the Honors College community and work toward completing the requirements for University Honors.

Benefits

  • Full tuition, fees, housing, and a meal plan for up to eight semesters. The scholarship may be applied toward study abroad for any semester after the first.
  • Personalized mentoring and academic advising from Honors faculty and staff.
  • A fully funded faculty-led study abroad experience through the Chancellor's Scholars Honors First-Year Seminar or an equivalent experience approved by the Associate Vice Provost for the Honors College.
  • A close-knit community of scholars built through shared experiences, special events, and programs throughout the year. The Heather Smith Brown Endowment helps support community-building activities, special programs, and shared learning opportunities for Chancellor's Scholars.
  • Priority housing on Honors-only floors located in Cone Hall (for first-year students) and Summit Hall (for upper-class students). The scholarship's housing support may be used off campus or elsewhere on campus after the first year.

By applying to the Honors College, you are automatically considered for the Chancellor’s Scholarship. No additional steps are required. Visit the Honors College First-Year Application for guidance on submitting a strong and competitive application.

Key Dates and Deadlines

  • November 15:  Early action deadline to submit a First-Year application via Common App. You must submit by the early action deadline to apply to the Honors College.
  • November 30:   Deadline to submit Scholarship and Honors Essays through your MyMountaineer Portal
  • January 24:  Scholarship interviews (held virtually)
  • March 31:  Deadline to accept scholarship offers or ask for an extension.
