Departmental Honors
In a Departmental Honors program, you'll dive deeper into your major by working closely with faculty, taking advanced coursework, and completing a thesis or capstone project.
Offered by participating academic departments across the university, Departmental Honors programs typically begin in the sophomore or junior year. Application procedures and requirements vary by department, so contact your major's Departmental Honors director or consult your department's section of the Undergraduate Bulletin to learn more.
Who Can Participate?
You do not have to be a member of the Honors College to pursue Departmental Honors.

University Honors is a separate, interdisciplinary program offered through the Honors College. Because the programs are administered separately, Honors College programs, services, resources, and benefits are available to students in the Honors College.
Many students pursue both University Honors through the Honors College and Departmental Honors through their academic department, combining a broad, interdisciplinary experience with advanced work in their major. Because the programs are intentionally aligned, Departmental Honors coursework often fulfills University Honors requirements, and a single Senior Honors Thesis can often satisfy requirements for both programs.
