University Honors Students
University Honors thesis submission
If you plan to graduate with University Honors, you must submit your thesis through the Honors College thesis submission form by the first day of final exams in the semester you intend to graduate.
The form asks you to attach some files. It may help to prepare them beforehand:
1. A digital copy of your complete thesis (title page, abstract, and thesis itself) as a single .pdf file.
- Your digital copy does not need signatures on the title.
- Use the file naming convention FirstName_LastName_Semester_HonorsThesis. For example, Vicky Klima’s Fall 2023 thesis would be named Vicky_Klima_Fall2023_HonorsThesis.pdf.
2. A scanned copy of your title page signed by all signatories except the Honors College Associate Vice Provost.
- Electronic or scanned signatures are acceptable.
- Use the file naming convention FirstName_LastName_Semester_TitlePage. For example, Vicky Klima’s Fall 2023 thesis title page be named Vicky_Klima_Fall2023_TitlePage.pdf.
Optional inclusion in Open AIR, Appalachian State’s Institutional Repository
You can submit your Honors Thesis to Open AIR, Appalachian State’s institutional repository, to make your work openly accessible, citable, and trackable.
Please revew and submit the Open AIR Electronic Thesis Deposit Agreement with your thesis mentor, making sure to talk with them about any intellectual property considerations and which Creative Commons license, if any, to apply.
- These conversations are encouraged for all students and are especially important if you plan to publish your thesis, pursue a patent, or include creative work such as writing, art, or design.
- If you determine with your mentor that you would like your thesis included in the repository, make sure to submit this form before the first day of final exams in the semester you will be graduating.

Departmental Honors Students

For students not also completing University Honors
If you are completing Departmental Honors, but not University Honors, work you’re your Department/College Honors Program Director to submit your thesis.

Bound Copies
Submitting hard copies of theses for binding
You may optionally purchase bound copies of your thesis. To do so collect the following:
- an appropriate number of pre-printed, single-sided, final copies to be bound, each placed in separate clasp envelops.
- a complete thesis binding information form.
- proof of payment for binding via TouchNet ($9 per copy).
If you are completing University Honors you should make an appointment to deliver these items to Victoria Kovtun in the Honors College so that she can coordinate with the library for binding.
If you are completing Departmental/College Honors, but not University Honors, you should make an appointment to deliver these things to your Department/College Honors Program Director. They will later bring the materials they have collected within their department/college to Victoria Kovtun so that she can coordinate with the library for binding.
