Megen Culpepper is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Fermentation Sciences. Her area of research includes projects spanning biochemistry, molecular biology and analytical chemistry focused on relating protein structure to biochemical function. She has mentored students across several disciplines in departmental and university Honors thesis research projects and has served as a second reader in both capacities. She was awarded the 2020 Office of Student Research Outstanding Undergraduate Research Mentor Award. Her research has been supported through the National Institutes of Health, the University of North Carolina System, and internal grants from RIEEE, URC, OSR, and CAS. Megen teaches lecture and laboratory courses in Biochemistry and Analytical Chemistry and serves as an academic advisor in her department. She was awarded the 2022 Richard N. Henson Outstanding Advisor Award from the College of Arts and Sciences. Megen is excited to join the Honors College team as the STEM mentor, facilitating students’ development in scholarship, service, and growth during their time at Appalachian State.
