What is an Honors Contract?
An Honors Contract allows a student and faculty member to work together to transform an eligible upper-division course into an Honors experience. Through the contract, the student completes work that goes beyond the standard course requirements in ways that reflect their interests and the goals of the course.
Examples of Honors Contract Activities
- Additional reading, writing, or research
- Independent projects or presentations
- Faculty-student meetings outside of class
- Laboratory, library, or creative work
- Participation in special events, performances, or field experiences
Eligibility & Policies
- Contracts must be completed and approved by the end of the first week of classes.
- Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (some departments may require a higher GPA).
- Contracts may only be completed in 3000-level courses or above.
- Students must earn a B or higher for Honors credit to be awarded.
- More than two Honors Contracts require approval from the Associate Vice Provost for the Honors College.
- Contracted courses should be taught by full-time faculty. Courses taught by teaching assistants, part-time faculty, or instructors listed as "staff" require additional approval.
