Effects of Climate Change Factors and Insect Infestation on Terpene Content in Solidago canadensis and Abies fraseri

Two studies were conducted to better understand the role of defensive plant chemicals in mediating plant-insect interactions.  First, to address how multiple, interacting climate drivers may affect terpene content in Solidago canadensis, leaf specimens were sampled from an old-field plant community grown for over three years under simultaneous carbon dioxide (CO2), temperature, and water manipulation.  The goal was to determine which climate variable, or combination of variables, may affect plant terpenes.

Anne Bradstreet's Ambigious Desire for Print Publication

In 1650, Anne Bradstreet’s brother-in-law, Rev. John Woodbridge, took Bradstreet’s manuscripts to London to have them printed without her permission or knowledge. For decades, scholars have discussed Anne Bradstreet’s reaction to this unauthorized printing of her poems. In Elizabeth Wade White’s 1971 biography on Anne Bradstreet, she wrote: “But nothing in [her life] suggests that Anne Bradstreet had a serious vocation as a poet.
