Traumatic brain injury can result in debilitating consequences, including a loss of speech, language skills, or cognitive communication awareness. Evaluation and treatment of speech, language, and swallowing disorders caused by traumatic brain injury are within the scope of practice of speech-language pathologists. According to the American Speech-Language­Hearing Association (ASHA), speech-language pathologists evaluate, diagnose, and treat swallowing, speech, language, and cognitive-communication disorders in individuals of all ages.

American Horse Racing: Equine Cultural Icons and the Media and Public That Create Them

This paper examines specific examples of American racehorses who have been elevated to hero status in the societies in which they lived by the press and the general public. First examined are different media theories that have evolved over time to explain the relationship between the press and public opinion of a topic. Then inspected are the stories of the horses that best fit this theme—Seabiscuit, Secretariat, Barbaro, Smarty Jones and John Henry— to explain what role the underdog theme of their stories played in their becoming superstars in their own right.

Equity, Compliance, and Appalachian State offers a medium for a more robust dialogue between students and the university as to the myriad of problems that stem from the words “compliant” and “accommodating.” This documentary relays the accounts and concerns of five students living with disabilities and acts as a mediator between these students and the university officials in position to effect change.

Do Tax Policies Affect Consumer Behavior?

Taxes have always been viewed as a necessary evil. In the dictionary, the word has two definitions. The first definition, which is a brief description of its purposes, states that a tax is “a sum of money demanded by a government for its support or for specific facilities or services, levied upon incomes, property, sales, etc.” The second definition can be used to portray how people feel about taxes. It states that a tax is “a burdensome charge, obligation, duty, or demand (Tax).”

The Sense of Community Within Mexican Farmworkers in the High Country

This research explores an area of study less acknowledged by many scholars-the importance of community within Mexican farmworkers in the High Country. This thesis examines the importance of social capital within the context of sustainable development, considering how different aspects of freedom impact quality of life. Twenty male Mexican farmworkers were interviewed about what they perceive to be community, and why it is important, or not important, to them. The interviews were analyzed considering common themes between the responses of all the farmworkers.
