Apparel Design of Professional Dress for Various Female Target Markets

The honors project consists of the construction of professional, yet fashionable, garments that will utilize and challenge apparel design skills.  The professional looks relate to three specific target markets and their current dress needs: high school graduates, college graduates, and professional working women.  Each garment contains a similar design aesthetic associated with a current fashion trend; ruffles are a prominent trend for the Spring 2009 season.

Effects of Personality on the Likelihood of Cuckoldry in Male Eastern Bluebirds, Sialia Sialis

Research with a population of socially monogamous Eastern bluebirds (Sialia sialis) breeding in Auburn, Alabama has demonstrated that the more colorful males feed offspring more often and fledge more offspring. However, this measurement of reproductive success does not account for the extra-pair young, which current research suggests comprise of 30% of the offspring in this population. these extra-pair young are fathered by a male that is not their mother’s social mate.

Neural Processing of Linguistic Devices in Use in Dr. Seuss Books

Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, authored a collection of books unique in their combination of narrative and nonsense. He used language simply yet creatively to engage the minds of young readers through the use of pseudowords, narrative cohesion, rhyme, and rhythm. Each of these linguistic features has been investigated in recent neuroimaging studies and are correlated with activation in particular regions of the brain, both inside and outside of areas frequently activated by language. Comparing these areas of activation reveals that reading Dr.

Feasibility Study of Implementing a Recycling Incentive Program in Boone and Watauga County

The purpose of this paper is to determine whether or not a recycling incentive program would be feasible in the Town of Boone and Watauga County. The paper first analyzes the local recycling industry as well as the RecycleBank incentive program, then administers a survey to understand the current and future recycling habits of those in the local community. Lastly a sensitivity analysis is used to determine the potential financial outcomes of an incentive program. The study shows that, while an incentive program is not feasible right now, one could be feasible in the near future.

Quercetin Supplementation Effects on Endothelial Function

Introduction: Endothelial dysfunction can often be a result of reduced nitric oxide bioavailability and is one factor that aids in the progression of many major diseases. Quercetin research has produced evidence to suggest that oral supplementation could improve nitric oxide levels via several different mechanisms. Increased nitric oxide concentrations might therefore result in improved endothelial function.

Characterization of VEGF Signaling in Mouse Cervix Using Real-Time PCR: PKC, PLC, and eNOS Signaling Molecules

Cervical remodeling is an inflammatory response that is closely associated with microvascular changes. Mechanisms that underlie vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) effects, such as angiogenesis, vascular permeability and vasodilation are tissue-dependent, but not completely known. In some tissues they are mediated by signaling molecules, such as protein kinase C(PKC), phopholipase C(PLC) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase(eNOS). The exact signaling pathway for VEGF effects in the cervix is not known.
