Honors Wednesday Memo

Opportunities and Information for Honors Students

edited by Lakin Stevens

Volume 5, Issue 14

November 17, 2021

Dear Honors students, faculty and staff, friends,

Readers of this Honors Wednesday Memo may recall my love for Tennyson's great poem Ulysses (1833, 1842), and especially this line, spoken by the title character: "I am a part of all that I have met." In a recent mailing from the purveyor of language wonders called A Word A DayI learned a counterpart line from Isamu Noguchi, architect and sculptor (1904-1988): "We are a landscape of all we have seen."

Taken together: what value these two declarations place on our every daily conversation and meeting, on all moments in our travels and studies, on everything we notice and consider.

May this make you as happy as it makes me, even at this stressful moment in our semester.

Yours,

Jeff
